Lea Ceramiche @ Milano Design Week

For Design Week 2022, Lea Ceramiche will invite the public to discover one of Milan’s most fascinating and hidden corners through an installation designed to enhance its pathways and perspectives, curated by architect Ferruccio Laviani.

Perspectives will take shape in the Giardino dei Platani at the Società Umanitaria in Milan, a green area next to the Chiostri di San Barnaba and an evocative setting in which to explore the beauty, possibilities and innovation of ceramic materials. Along the garden paths, Laviani has conceived a journey through ceramics that investigates the kaleidoscopic perspectives opening up for architecture.

A sequence of ultra-thin ceramic slabs alternates to create a perspective tunnel, punctuated by openings reminiscent of natural crevices that draw the eye towards new viewpoints.

“I imagined an installation halfway between installation art and land art, recalling the material stratification of Thomas Demand’s ‘Grotto’, Stephen Doyle’s sculpted book pages and the contemporary labyrinth of Pieterjan Gijs and Arnout Van Vaerenbergh. A different way of experiencing ceramics through a combination of mineral and vegetal, architecture and art, experience and visual perception, expressed through the language of LEA Ceramiche collections.” Ferruccio Laviani.

A sequence of shaped partitions clad in extremely thin, almost imperceptible white ceramic slabs culminates in coloured surfaces. After the initial whiteness, Perspectives reveals a new horizon, where colour becomes a metaphor for the variety of architectural scenarios Lea Ceramiche intends to explore.

To create the installation, Lea Ceramiche showcases the best of its Slimtech 3plus technology: large-format laminated porcelain stoneware offering exceptional lightness thanks to its ultra-thin thickness of just 3.5 mm. Versatile and resistant, the material opens up new possibilities for architecture and interiors while expanding designers’ creative freedom. The large, thin slabs are also suitable for a wide range of applications and can be installed over existing surfaces, providing great flexibility in renovation projects.

Through Perspectives, Ferruccio Laviani interprets one of the distinctive elements of Lea Ceramiche’s research: large ultra-thin slabs. The installation illustrates how ceramics can continuously open up new scenarios and design possibilities, expressing the brand’s innovative spirit and its ability to explore unconventional languages for porcelain stoneware through collaborations with leading creative figures.

During Design Week, Lea Ceramiche will therefore invite design enthusiasts and professionals to enter a new dimension and explore renewed architectural perspectives, experiencing ceramics in an unconventional way through a dialogue between mineral and vegetal, architecture and art, experience and visual perception, all expressed through the most innovative language of ceramics.
