Orsi Academy

A place synonymous with innovation and research, attracting thousands of surgeons from around the world and hosting some of the most advanced technologies in robotic surgery. This is the Orsi Academy in Melle, Belgium, Europe’s largest training centre in the field, recently expanded with a new campus. Carefully divided into operating rooms, meeting rooms, an auditorium, restaurant and foyer, the building is arranged on a rectangular plan and characterised by opaque and transparent façade elements that highlight and distinguish the different functions of each area. In response to the need to reorganise the spaces, VK Architects&Engineers, the studio behind the project, placed particular emphasis on quality, functionality and healthy indoor environments, both in the design of the spaces and in the selection of materials. District by Lea Ceramiche was chosen for the flooring, a ceramic surface inspired by the contemporary look of concrete and distinguished by Protect^® antibacterial protection, a technology developed in collaboration with Microban^® that guarantees the elimination of 99% of bacteria 24 hours a day. Based on silver ions and incorporated during the production process, it remains active even in the absence of light. District by Lea Ceramiche provides durable surfaces with high hygienic performance, ideal for environments where safety and protection are of primary importance.
