At the MODE Hotel in Rimini, a project exploring new hospitality models through the contribution of several Italian architecture studios, the outdoor spaces play a key role in shaping the hotel’s identity. Conceived as places for meeting and engaging with the landscape, they create a natural continuity between architecture, greenery and well-being, transforming the outdoor areas into a vibrant and welcoming extension of the guest experience.

Within this context, Green Is the New Black, the project by Rizoma Architecture, reinterprets the hotel’s outdoor landscape through a vision focused on spatial quality, regeneration and comfort. The building envelope has been redesigned to optimise the building’s performance and provide effective protection from the elements. Particular attention has been paid to selecting reliable, durable materials that respond to the architectural and functional requirements of the project.

This approach is reflected in the choice of Lea Ceramiche surfaces, which play a key role in defining the outdoor spaces. The 20 mm thick Masterpiece Sand porcelain stoneware defines pathways, seating areas and connecting spaces throughout the hotel, creating a coherent and long-lasting material language. Its natural texture interacts with the vegetation and the architectural lines of the building, forming a backdrop that supports and enhances the entire outdoor landscape.

The combined use of different installation techniques – adhesive installation on surfaces closer to the building and raised installation on gravel in areas adjoining the greenery and swimming pool – highlights the flexibility of the collection and enhances its performance in terms of drainage, stability and maintenance.

The spaces designed by Rizoma Architecture combine vegetation, light and material in a carefully balanced composition, creating an immersive environment that changes throughout the day and across the seasons. The lighting, designed to enhance the perceptual quality of the outdoor areas, helps create unexpected atmospheres and makes the exterior spaces an integral part of the MODE Hotel’s identity. The project has also attracted considerable attention from the specialist press, which has highlighted its ability to combine aesthetics, comfort and a new interpretation of outdoor spaces in the hospitality sector.

The result is a contemporary architectural landscape in which Lea Ceramiche surfaces are not merely high-performance materials, but elements that create meaning, character and continuity: a material expression capable of translating the hotel’s design vision into a tangible, everyday experience.
